My name is Mirjam Joustra, and I’m a traditional acrylic artist who currently specializes in realistic animal paintings, as well as landscapes. Each piece is infused with my connection to animals, nature and my personal experiences. My art journey is more than just capturing lifelike details; it’s about overcoming challenges with determination and inspiring others who seek art that reflects resilience, growth and natural beauty.

I understand the balancing act between pursuing creative passions and meeting life’s demands, especially as a time-strapped single mom juggling artistic ambitions and motherhood. This balance has shaped my unique perspective and fuels my commitment to making art that not only captivates but also inspires others to create, no matter how busy life gets.

I’ve poured my heart into creating relatable, supportive content on my YouTube channel, MiMi’s Art, where I share practical guides, painting techniques, and the unfiltered realities of being an artist. Whether I’m painting the fierce eye of a bald eagle or piecing together stories that blend faith and emotion, my goal is to uplift fellow artists and encourage them to find time for their passion.

I live in the Okanagan Valley in Beautiful British Columbia, Canada, but I didn’t start out there. Originally born and raised in The Netherlands, I am a Dutchie at heart. I immigrated to Canada in my early 20’s, on my own, leaving friends and family behind to start a life on the other side of the ‘puddle’. And as life has it, things don’t always end up the way you hope, but there’s beauty, strength, resilience and faith to be found in every chapter of life and my hope is that my art reflects that in every piece I make. 

On my site, you’ll find more than a portfolio. As I continue to grow, I aim to bring my art to even more people through commissioned pieces and licensed work. I am also excited to offer prints of my original works and a range of affordable art-inspired items, that bring a touch of nature and realism into your space. These elements are currently under construction but I hope to bring this to my website in the future for you to browse and enjoy.
